Magnesium Glycinate supports nervous-system regulation, sleep quality and everyday stress resilience — a bioavailable, chelated form of magnesium that's gentle on the gut, not a synthetic sedative and not a proprietary "calm" blend. A three-capsule serving carries a fully disclosed 275mg of elemental magnesium (65% of the Daily Value) from 2,500mg of magnesium glycinate: one active, one number, the whole dose on the label. Most "calm" and "sleep support" products fold a smaller, unstated amount of magnesium into a blend of six or eight other ingredients — you can't tell how much of anything you're actually taking. Here, there's nothing to hide behind.*

Evidence reviewed: September 2026.

Corrected September 2026 — re-verified at source. The stress claim on this page was the worst error we found, and it flattered us three ways at once:
  • We called it “the best-designed trial” and quoted a “43–45% drop in self-reported stress scores” as though it were a placebo-controlled result. That trial had no placebo group. It compared magnesium with magnesium-plus-B6, and the figures are within-group change from baseline.
  • We said the dose was “250–400mg”. It was a fixed 300mg a day, of a different magnesium salt.
  • We then called that “the same range disclosed on this label”, which turned a made-up range into a claim about our own product. Removed.

The sleep meta-analysis was reported accurately but selectively: its total-sleep-time result was not significant and its own authors rate the evidence low to very low quality. Both are now on the page. We have also stopped describing the formula as “one ingredient” — there is one active, plus four excipients — and added a note that our label does not state whether the magnesium stearate is plant- or animal-derived.

What the evidence actually shows

Sleep & nervous system — the complete evidence-based guide to magnesium, including a pooled meta-analysis of three randomized trials in 151 older adults with insomnia, which found magnesium cut time to fall asleep by about 17 minutes versus placebo (95% CI −27.3 to −7.4, p=0.0006). The same review is worth quoting against itself: its total-sleep-time result (a 16-minute gain) was not statistically significant, all three trials were at moderate-to-high risk of bias, the evidence was graded low to very low quality, and the authors concluded the literature is currently too weak for clinicians to make well-informed recommendations. None of those trials used the glycinate form. Read it here →

Why this form specifically — what the absorption evidence actually shows for glycinate vs. other forms. The one rigorous head-to-head trial that exists found citrate absorbed better than oxide; glycinate hasn't been tested directly against citrate yet, so we're not going to claim an absorption edge no trial has shown. We chose it for GI tolerability at a nightly dose, plus the glycine component's own separately studied role in sleep quality. Full evidence →

Anxiety & stress — what the evidence shows, and where it's thinner than marketing suggests. The most-cited trial here gave 264 adults with severe stress and low blood magnesium 8 weeks of supplementation, after which stress scores had fallen 42.4% in the magnesium-only arm and 44.9% in the magnesium-plus-B6 arm. Read those numbers carefully, because we previously did not: the trial had no placebo arm — it compared magnesium against magnesium-plus-vitamin-B6, was single-blind, and the difference between the two arms was not statistically significant overall. So those percentages are before-and-after change within each group, not an effect measured against placebo, and some of it will be regression to the mean and expectation. The dose was also a fixed 300mg a day of a different magnesium salt, not a 250–400mg range and not glycinate. Full evidence →

Is it suitable for vegans? The capsule is hypromellose (plant-based) and the other excipients are silicon dioxide and rice flour, so on the face of it yes. One caveat we would rather state than skip: magnesium stearate can be sourced from either plant or animal fats, and our label does not specify which. If strict vegan sourcing matters to you, treat that as unconfirmed rather than confirmed until we can document it.

How do you back this up? We ask our manufacturer for batch testing, and we have not published a certificate of analysis. What you can check yourself is the label: one active, one disclosed dose. If it's not right for you, our 90-day money-back guarantee covers your first order, even opened. What a COA actually tells you →
